Down to Three.

Three days.

My life has utterly changed in the process of preparation for this trip. I’m not even sure where to begin. Even though I most definitely haven’t been writing in here  (apologies), I’ve been writing faithfully anything and everything that happens, quotes, encouragement, nights where I can’t sleep and lists in my journal. Probably the next time I blog after this will be in South Africa. I leave Friday. My heart has been ready for weeks and my closest friends tell me there’s been a change in my eyes. I know there has. This is the first of many. There’s already need in Medellin, Colombia in February and talk of need in Uruguay. I’m diving into independent photojournalism and uncharted territory. I’m split 80% excited, 20% anxious, which I’m finding completely normal and expected.

Harry came to visit this past week from England. He’ll be in the states for a few weeks. He was one of the best assistants I’ve had when I shot a wedding this past weekend. Perfect weekend for driving, as it was peak.

A little scouting the night before:

Note: portraits at high noon after a morning wedding can be a challenge. I’m happy with how these turned out. Deidra and Isaac are an incredible couple and a pleasure to work with : )

All the fundraising, meetings, calls and lists are finished… now it’s time to gather, sleep somehow, and go. I want to thank each and every one of you who have come alongside me in this – my heart has been so deeply edified and encouraged by you. All the emails, letters, purchased prints and selfless giving of your time have made it possible for me to go. You’re all going with me in heart and what you give won’t come back void. Thank you.

See you in Africa.

Ah yes, that change in the eyes. The readiness of heart. So very important.

I have been contemplating a similar endeavor, but it isn’t time yet. It’s inspiring to see others go, though. Looking forward to hearing about your journey!

How long will you be in SA?
